Add-ons

Headgear Tubes

Add stainless steel tubes to the appliance for compatibility with facebow-type orthodontic headgear.

Tongue Crib

A tongue crib helps discourage tongue thrusting and assists in breaking habits like thumb sucking.

Reverse Pull Hooks

Add special hooks to the appliance for attachment to a reverse-pull face mask. Commonly used in orthopedic correction of underbites (Class III malocclusions).

Acrylic-Covered Labial Bow

Add a layer of acrylic over the labial bow (the front wire across the teeth) for enhanced comfort and aesthetics. This option helps reduce metal visibility and can make the appliance feel smoother against the lips – great for customers with sensitivity or cosmetic preferences.

Add Cheek Guards

Add smooth acrylic cheek guards to the sides of the appliance to reduce irritation from wires or components rubbing against the inner cheeks. This option improves comfort, especially for customers with sensitive cheeks or those prone to irritation from orthodontic appliances.

Extra-Thick Acrylic

Choose extra-thick acrylic for added strength and durability. Ideal for customers who require a sturdier appliance due to heavy wear, strong bite forces, or for those who simply prefer a more robust feel. Note that this may add some bulk compared to the standard acrylic thickness.

Add Lip Bumper

Add a lip bumper, a U-shaped, acrylic-covered wire shield positioned in front of the lower teeth, designed to keep the lower lip away from the teeth and reduce lip pressure. This helps in creating space by allowing the back teeth to move naturally and preventing the lower lip from exerting unwanted forces on the front teeth. Often used in orthodontic treatment to assist with arch development and alignment.

Additional Expansion Screw

Add an extra expansion screw to the appliance for enhanced or multi-directional expansion. This option is useful when greater or segmented expansion is needed – for example, expanding different parts of the arch independently. It is commonly selected for complex orthodontic cases requiring more precise control over tooth and arch movement.

Tongue Bead (Pearl)

Add a small, smooth tongue bead (also called a pearl) to the center of the upper appliance. This tactile training aid encourages proper tongue positioning by providing a physical point of contact for the tongue tip. Commonly used to help correct tongue thrust habits, improve swallowing patterns, and support speech development.

Add Impression Kit

If you don’t already have dental impressions or digital scans, select this option to receive our easy-to-use impression kit, complete with instructions.

The Fränkel II (Frankel Type II) appliance is a unique, tissue-supported device that focuses on muscle training and spatial awareness within the oral cavity. Unlike traditional tooth-borne appliances, this bioblock-style regulator rests on the soft tissues and gently guides the natural posture of the lips, cheeks, and tongue. Crafted to fit your individual dental impression, the Fränkel II is a standout among removable appliances – lightweight, flexible, and easy to wear.

Wearing Experience:
This appliance feels noticeably different from traditional tooth-supported devices. It rests in the vestibular areas rather than on the teeth themselves. You may feel the functional shields gently pressing against your cheeks and lips, which may influence speech and facial posture in the beginning. The tongue remains free, and breathing and swallowing feel natural.

Key Features

  • Functional Shields:
Soft acrylic side panels extend into the vestibular spaces between the lips/cheeks and the dental arches. These shields help reduce muscle pressure on the teeth and promote balanced facial muscle activity.
  • Wire Framework:
A carefully contoured stainless steel frame provides structural integrity and secures the appliance’s position without anchoring directly to the teeth. The labial and lingual wires are shaped for comfort and resilience.
  • Palatal-Free Design:
The Fränkel II does not cover the palate or bite surfaces, allowing for free tongue movement and uninhibited growth of the dental arches.
  • Color Options:
The visible acrylic shields can be personalized in a wide range of colors to reflect your individual style.
