About Our Palate Expander Appliances
Our palate expander appliances are custom-made, removable constructions that combine acrylic parts with genuine orthodontic screws and wire components. Depending on the model, they are supplied as a single appliance or a coordinated upper-and-lower set.
Our consumer appliances are supplied for visual, illustrative, entertainment, or professional-demonstration purposes. They are not intended for orthodontic treatment and are not a substitute for professional dental or orthodontic care.

| Appliance | Key design features |
|---|---|
| Schwarz Appliance | A classic acrylic plate with one central screw, wire clasps, and a front wire bow. |
| 3-Way Schwarz Appliance | The upper plate has several acrylic sections around one central multi-directional screw assembly. The lower version has a horseshoe-shaped plate with a specialized screw. |
| Rapid Palatal Expander (RPE) | A metal framework with a central screw and two broad acrylic pads at the sides. |
| 3-Screw Sagittal Appliance | Three separate screws: one central screw positioned across the plate and two side screws positioned lengthwise. |
| Biobloc Stage 1 Appliance | A central screw, a lingual wire bow behind the front teeth, Crozat-style wire clasps, and additional wire components. |
| Removable Acrylic Rapid Palatal Expander (RPE) | Acrylic side sections joined by one screw per plate, with front wire bows and wire clasps. The upper screw sits toward the back; the lower screw sits toward the front. |
| Modified Expansion Plate | The upper version has five screws in a full acrylic palatal plate. The lower version has three screws and a lip bumper. |
| Expansion Plate with Cheek Guards | An upper acrylic plate with two screws, four springs behind the front teeth, side cheek guards, and a front lip pad. The guards extend into the lower-jaw area, so records for both jaws are required. |
| Bite Jumping Appliance (Sander II) | A coordinated set of upper and lower acrylic plates with one screw each. Two downward-facing guide prongs are integral parts of the upper Sander II screw. |
Expanders - Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before ordering a custom palate expander:
Expanders
Are the expansion screws genuine orthodontic components?
Yes. Our expander-style appliances use genuine orthodontic expansion screws and professional laboratory construction. The screws are not dummy props. This construction does not establish individual suitability for treatment or guarantee a dental or skeletal effect.
Can I order an appliance for orthodontic treatment?
Standard consumer orders are not supplied for orthodontic treatment. For treatment-related needs, consult a licensed local orthodontist. Any request for treatment-purpose manufacture requires separate review and an individual prescription specifying the appliance’s construction. BracesShop does not diagnose, plan treatment, or provide clinical supervision.
Can you help me compare the different appliance designs?
We can explain the physical construction, available options, and required records for each design. We cannot recommend an appliance for a dental condition or treatment goal. A licensed local orthodontist must assess treatment-related suitability.
Can I personalize the colors and construction?
Yes. Choose from the options shown in the product configurator. For another available acrylic color, a multi-color design, or a construction request that is not listed, describe your preferences in checkout Notes. Our technicians will review special requests before fabrication. Some requests may require an additional charge, which will be confirmed with you.
What happens after I place my order?
We make your appliance from suitable dental impressions or compatible intraoral scans. If you need an impression kit, you can order it together with the appliance. Upload clear impression photos through the customer portal and wait for approval and return instructions before sending the impressions. Scan files can also be uploaded through the portal. Fabrication begins after suitable records have been received and checked.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide from the USA and the EU! We have return addresses in the USA, UK, and EU for your convenience. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout, and tracking is included with every order.
Is an impression kit required for my order?
You need suitable records for each jaw required by your selected appliance and options, but you do not necessarily need a new impression kit. Recent dentist-taken impressions or compatible intraoral scans may be used after review. Records from a previous BracesShop order may also be reusable if they remain available and your teeth have not changed. If you do not have suitable records, you can add an impression kit to your order.
What is the return process for my impressions?
Upload clear photos through the customer portal linked in your order-status emails. If you cannot use the portal, email the photos with your order number to [email protected]. After approval, you will receive the appropriate return instructions and address or return label. Please wait for these instructions before sending your impressions.
Will I receive screw activation or adjustment instructions?
No. BracesShop does not provide screw activation, adjustment, or treatment instructions. Any treatment-related activation or adjustment must be determined and supervised by a licensed local orthodontist.
